BACKSTORY

House Party

Testing out the idea

The project came across to me around the cusp of September-October. I met the founder at a house party where we talked about the general stuff in life and got to know each others profession. A month later, I was onboard the idea to build a MVP.

Timeline

The founder was looking for someone who could build them a MVP that could be tested out. We set off to build the MVP for Knotify in the 2 phases. The first phase lasted from Nov’23 to Jan’24.

OBJECTIVES

Need of Minimum Viable Product

Company goals

They were looking for a quick release of the MVP so that they could get early on feedback on the designs. And then build it out for the next phase as well.

My goals

During my time at my previous workplace, I had mostly worked on website based projects, baring an exception Insage. Thus it was a good opportunity for me to try out my hands after a long time on a MVP project.

ABOUT KNOTIFY

The Business

Knotify taps into this market by helping business manage their front line work force. This is due to the fact when front line workers are hired, they are communicated through informal ways of communication such as WhatsApp, WeChat.

This means there is lack of tracking of threads on an email.

Mission

Empower businesses to grow and thrive by unlocking the full potential of their mobile and remote teams

Unique Selling Point

Integration with all the major messaging apps

SECONDARY STUDY

Soaking in all the Additional Information

Gig Economy

The global Gig Economy market size was valued at USD 413930.0 million in 2022 and is forecasted to register a 14.22% CAGR during the forecast period (2024 to 2031) & to projected reach USD 918944.83 Million by 2031. [1]

This means that a whole section of population is looking to take up jobs that are flexible in nature.

App Inspirations

I had to look for other apps in the market to understand how can we build an interface for Knotify. To do that, I looked at all the job posting apps like Indeed, LinkedIn, Fiverr & Upwork.

METHODOLOGY

Various Steps

This project involved creating Product requirement document, conducting competitor analysis, user flows, use persona and an information architecture.

PRD

Competitor analysis

User flows

User persona

Wireframe

I like to have things in written as it becomes easier for everyone to refer back on a single source of truth. And since it was a quick to create project, I had to make up PRD and get approval on it so that things could be created in an easier and efficient manner.

This also meant a clear scope of work that entails the necessary requirements related to the project, highlighting the things in a phase wise manner.

Once the approval and initial was in, it was time to dig in the project.

FINAL OUTCOME

The MVP

Since the company operates out of Singapore, they want to start from SEA, and then expand it to India. This means capturing  3.6% of the resident labour force. This would help them solidify their market before moving to newer patches.
LEARNINGS

Reflections from the project

Understand the finance

The project got on hold indefinitely since the founder is yet to gather funding for the project. Thus as designer, it was learning to choose projects where the finances of the start-up can afford the project till its entirety.
